Ships are larger watercraft or other floating objects with certain characteristics that are not defined uniformly. The distinction between ships and boats or other floating objects is therefore not clear-cut. Maritime law often uses a clear length threshold. Very often, anything under 20 meters in length is officially considered a boat, while larger watercraft are classified as ships or yachts.
